Vegetarian options are not a mere postscript at the foot of the menu at the Atholl Arms Hotel in Dunkeld. They’re a constant and prominent part of its highly rated food offering. The 17 bedroom hotel by the banks of the River Tay in Highland Perthshire always has vegetarian and vegan choices, and according to co-owner Christine Sinclair they are becoming increasingly popular. “A balanced vegetarian diet is one of the healthiest around,” said Christine who owns the Atholl Arms with her husband Neil and is herself a vegetarian. "It’s also one of the best ways to use our wonderful resource of fresh farm produce, especially from Perthshire.” Head Chef Eddie Atkinson and his team relish the added creativity afforded by vegetarian and vegan dishes which are included on the menus of both the hotel’s Bistro and RiverView restaurants. They are also featured in the hotel’s four course Slow Dinners, held on the first Thursday of each month and based on the Cittaslow method of cooking, using locally sourced and seasonal ingredients. The Atholl Arms’ reputation gained further boosts at the Scottish Hotel Awards in May when it won a Local and Seasonal Food Award and Christine and Neil were presented with Hospitality Gold Medals.
